Among the least favorite duties of the Editor of any newsletter or local paper is the reporting of illnesses, and accidents and the worst of these...the PASSINGS of old friends and buddies...and again we must deal with the loss of a
dear FRIEND and CLASSMATE --

IN MEMORIAM

ROBERT MYLES MCCRAY, M.D.
1926 -- 2005

August 12, 2005
following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease

A lot of classmates sent articles from local newspapers outlining Bob's education, devotion to his community and many medical accomplishments, but his pal and admirer AL OSTERLING sent his own version, from the 'road', having just visited with Bob along the way:

On graduating from GLENBARD, Bob attended the University of Illinos, and then entered the Army in 1945. When he came home, he returned to U of I and went on to medical school. Bob married Janet Hough in 1950.

He was an accomplished musician in folk and classical guitar.

Bob established and developed the first and only medical clinic in Glen Ellyn, which is now part of a regional system with over 200 doctors. He was a major part of creating a county-wide Bike Trail using retired RR rights of way, and was Chairman of the group. He was elected to the Board of The College of DuPage, and was subsequently Chairman.

Bob studied Greek and other languages on cassette tapes while commuting to his hospital assignments. As an avid biker, he and his family once rode bikes to O'Hare airport to catch a flight to Europe and a biking vacation. Bob and Janet (who died in 2004) raised 7 talented children who have a myriad of advanced degrees in medicine, engineering biology and literature. Daughter Hollis has been elected and serves as a Judge of DuPage County. They have 23 grandchildren.

AL'S quote in closing: "He was unassuming and modest in all these accomplishments, and contributed more than all of us."
