THE PETUNIAS and THE GERANIUMS
Blaze brilliantly
In the cool morning sun
An overpowering blend
Dark purples dark reds whites delicate pinks
All mashed together
A vibrant patchwork quilt
Inimitable handiwork
Crafted by the goddess
Of all nature

Absorbing the magic of
This natural tapestry
Gives me special joy
This early spring morn
And yet sadly it also gives me pause
Knowing that with the
Passing of the season
My beauties
Will soon leave the serene
Bed of security
Rudely uprooted before the oncoming
Harsh summer sun
Necessitates a change
To a hardier specimen
Marigolds and vinca
Man and nature
Changing the guard
But why, I ask
Must all things beautiful
Leave us
Depart prematurely
Leaving behind
A tantalizing scent
Of a lovely
Bygone day

Lonely and alone
I ponder
Will I just as suddenly
Be uprooted from my
Tranquil perch of serenity
But then its not for me to know
Any more than my sweet petunias
Who lie so blissfully at my feet

HEY, WHAT'S UP???

A little word with lots of meanings...maybe more than any other 2 letter word.

It's easy to understand UP meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but why do we WAKE UP in the morning? or SPEAK UP? Or why are officers UP for election? Or secretaries write UP a report?

Why does a topic COME UP? We call UP our friends; brighten UP a room; warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen.

We LOCK UP the house and some guys FIX UP the old car. Some people STIR UP trouble; LINE UP for tickets, WORK UP an appetite and THINK UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing, but to be DRESSED UP is special.

And a confusing one... a drain must be OPENED UP because it is STOPPED UP! We OPEN UP the store in the morning, and CLOSE IT UP at night.

We seem to be pretty MIXED UP about UP. If you are UP TO IT, you might try BUILDING UP a list of all the ways UP is used. It will TAKE UP a lot of your time, but if you don't GIVE UP, you may WIND UP with a hundred or more.

When it threatens to rain, we say it's CLOUDING UP. When the sun comes out, we say it's CLEARING UP. When it doesn't rain for awhile, things DRY UP. Lets WRAP IT UP for now, time to SHUT UP.

Oh, one more thing...what is the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night?

U - P!
