People and Places:
The report from Rancho Mirage, CA (CA desert) seems more like a mini-reunion than just a few sightings!
BOB HILB and lovely wife JANE spent their usual 6 or 8 weeks just down the road from us, and hosted a great dinner at their Ironwood condo. DARYL JAMES (an all-year resident of the desert), NANCY MacGONAGLE MORE (who drove up from Vista CA), and Ben and I were treated to a fine dinner, and even finer conversation and talked about all of you!!
The next day, BOB and NANCY joined us at Sunrise CC for a round of golf and a nifty lunch. It
was joy time for all, and since Sunrise is an "executive" short course, none of us did too
badly. (I lie to save face, but those pals won't squeal!) Next season, we hope to have the HILBS as members of the Sunrise Club...(Ironwood is a l-o-n-g 18 holes and BOB likes ours better! YAY!) DARYL plans to renew his golf interest by next season.

KENNETH KLUG sent me a couple of notes by "Snail mail" in response to my
pleas... here's one:
"Dear Editor:
You asked for news. As Lincoln Steffens found out, people are usually not interested in good news. They avidly read any bad news. Lincoln Steffens was a muckraker and wrote the only autobiography I found worth reading. Therefore, if you could suggest people or classmates you wish would drop dead, or die of being hit over the head, etc., you might receive more mail, or even reunion suggestions.
Yours truly,
Kenneth W. Klug"
(Ed. note: Oh, Ken...I think we would all be better off without ANY news. I keep hoping that we surely will hear something good!)

PHIL WOODWORTH, our Publisher and Friend, has written an E-mail or two from Cincinnati and surrounds. He has traveled to California and Florida this winter (where he visited with LES DURYEA). He also says he has made the acquaintance of a lovely lady-friend at a group meeting of people who have lost family members. Phil says this group has helped him tremendously. Nancy Goldberg lost her husband, and the two find many things in common. HURRAY for you, PHIL, and thank you Nancy G.!!

ROSE MARIE MAREK VAUGHN wound up at Hoag hospital here in Newport Beach following a small stroke last winter, and fortunately we were close enough to see her and follow up on her progress. She is still under going intense therapy, but has returned home to Los Angeles and is crabbing a lot about lack of
excitement . . . which always means GETTING BETTER!! Thank Goodness, 'Mosie' ! Send her a card or letter at: 12216 Everglade St. Los Angeles, CA 90066

AL OSTERLING and CECE called a few evenings ago in response to my call to them about our pal
DICK CALKINS. They reported on a trip to Viet Nam in January, but not very detailed. They were both on the phone at the same time, so were hard to hear. I gathered that Nam has become somewhat of a Tourist
attraction, and very busy...but they do well in their ground-based home in Boulder City, NV and have not replaced their Rig (motor home) as yet, though they are 'shopping'.

What do bulletproof vests, fire escapes, wind-shield wipers & laser printers have in common?
All were invented by women. AHA!
