In the winter of 2004 and almost every winter, Ben and I go to Palm Desert (actually Rancho Mirage for us) and golf some, and play some, and , also, visit with some good pals from the old GLENBARD days...DARYL JAMES (who lives there year round), AL OSTERLING and his Cece who used to come for the winter when they were motor-homing-it, and always BOB HILB and Jane, who escape the snow and ice of Glen Ellyn for a couple months.

Most of you know that BOB's company is HILB, ROGAL, AND HAMILTON COMPANY, the nation's 7th largest insurance brokerage firm, with offices located throughout the United States. The Company is traded on the New York Stock Exchange, symbol HRH, and is ranked as the 10th largest insurance intermediary in the world. (See www.hrh.com) Bob sent us this information (prepared in 2002) about the company's charities:

"A year ago, HRH Charitable Foundation and its employees committed ONE MILLION DOLLARS and an undetermined number of hours to HABITAT for HUMANITY, Intl.!! Together with Habitat, HRH identified seven locations nationwide in which the company will sponsor homes in 2003. These sites are located in or near cities in which HRH has a major presence, and the need for durable, affordable housing is present. The seven sites for homes to be built in 2003 are: Hartford, CT; Columbus, OH; Richmond, VA; Birmingham, AL; Dallas, TX; Oklahoma City, OK; Denver, CO (additional homes will be sponsored in 2004).

"In addition to its financial pledge, HRH has adopted the notion of being good corporate citizens through community involvement into its business plan. HRH recently added COMMUNITIES as its fourth core commitment. To help fill this, each HRH Agency sponsors at least one "Build Day" per year. On that day, employees of the agency, along with vendors, clients, and business partners volunteer at a HABITAT project site in their community."
(Ed. Note: It is my personal opinion that HABITAT for HUMANITY is one of the best charitable ideas to come along...ever. We support it, along with President JIMMY CARTER (and Bob) with all our heart!   GOOD FOR YOU, BOB, and HRH. You make us proud! )
