Each time we write this Newsletter, the editor sits and just prays that we don't have a bevy of ANGELS . . . I thought we made it this time, but have heard from Phil that we have a couple more. Heck. But a quote from Sir Walter Scott seems heartening:

"Is death the last step? No, it is the final awakening."

RING A BELL FOR OUR CLASSMATES AND NEWEST
ANGELS

In a way, we DID hear from Bob. We would have preferred an e-mail though.

LeROY ROATH did send an e-mail to Phil which he forwarded on to me:

"Thank you for the newest Newsletter.

My wife and I have just moved into Beacon Hill Retirement Center in Lombard, so we have a new address. We are both doing well in keeping physically fit and are enjoying this move and downsizing from 4 bedrooms to 2.

We wanted to stay in our home town because of friends and church. I was born here and Janette came in 1938. Our children all live out of state, so we can visit often. My business has always been in Lombard, so I have contacts from there, too.

Sorry we don't have interesting news to add to the 'Letter', but did want to give you our new address:

    LeRoy and Janette (Eckman) Roath       (Janette is Class of 1946)
    2400 S. Finley Road Apt. 115
    Lombard, Illinois 60148-4868
    Same Phone: 630-627-0849"

ED KETT always answers the call for news, too. His note to Phil on September 1 was all about baseball.

    "My daughter, Barbara sent out 60 entries to a lottery for a chance at four seats for he midsummer classic, and I was LUCKY! My kids treated for my birthday, and it was the first All Star game I ever attended. I was thrilled when the AL won in the 8th on a home run with a man on base.

    I've been a White Sox fan since my dad took me to a game when I was about 5 years old. Both teams are in the pennant race right now (Ed. Note: Shucks...no more!), Maybe there will be a Subway Series in Chi. in October. (Shucks again!!) Take care, Ed."

(I really thought my Cubbies had it too :(( )

SO...we have the report from our EVER LOYAL Treasurer, Jim Love:

Last issue, we had a balance on hand of $ 1147.30, broken down as follows:

NEWSLETTER FUND
REUNION 'LEFT OVER'
$ 914.12
233.18
The cost of the SPRING NEWSLETTER was
Plus a nice donation from a happy reader (Many THANKS Betty!)
- 311.88
+ 25.00
Giving us a Newsletter balance of
Plus the reunion slush

TOTAL BOTH FUNDS as of today

$ 627.24
233.18

$ 860.42

The question still stands as to whether we ought to keep the two funds separate, or roll them into one. The "Staff" to whom I have spoken (Jim, Phil, and Chuck ) seems to think it would be better to combine the two, and if (or WHEN) we have another get-together, we can start all over on the Reunion $$. If any of you have a comment, please let one of us know.

It's not a great deal of money, and when it's gone, ( maybe 2 1/2 issues from now...) we'll just close shop...UNLESS... that thought upsets any of you, and you'd really like to send JIM a couple of bucks. YOU KNOW ALL COMMENTS ARE APPRECIATED AND TAKEN TO HEART...Talk to us!
