Al and Cece Osterling sent me several good shots of grads we haven't seen for awhile, but they, of course, see them in their RV wanderings over the 48... which may end soon, now that they have roots in Boulder City, NV!

Cece says they'll just get a smaller RV so they can keep traveling some. She told us..." I love our cozy place. Views are certainly different from New Jersey" (their last home location...what? ten years ago?)...Check out their new address and phone on the roster.

In the meantime, they were in Downer's for a huge celebration of their 50th Anniversary, and by "huge", we mean their kids and grandkids alone number 32! With sisters, brothers and others...it was HUGE...and evidently much fun for all.

THE LOVE TRAVEL STORY - Alaska, this time!

What's with the broom? Well, that's the "Clean Sweep" and is awarded to those visitors to Denali National Park, Alaska for having seen Denali (Mt. McKinley) with no clouds hiding any of it, and seeing at least one of each of the following: Moose, Caribou, Dall Sheep, and Grizzly bear. Since Denali is in clouds more often than not, and the Park is roughly the size of Vermont, the odds are against you. Incidentally, that is Denali in the background!

In July we flew to Anchorage and then Fairbanks, spending the week sightseeing our way down to Seward, where we met the ship that would take us through the Inside Passage. Some of our land back highlights, besides Denali, were panning for gold (we got $11.00 worth), seeing Jeff King's Iditerod Champion Huskies (he trains up to 100 of them), white water rafting, a float plane fly-over of aome of the glacier fields, and some great salmon dinners.

The Inside Passage cruise included stops at Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, each different from the other. While cruising, we saw lots of glaciers close-up and parked to see a few of them "calving" - shearing off at water's edge. And, yes, we did see evidence that they are retreating - at least in that area. We also saw some whales if you count only seeing their dorsal fins. And, oh yes, we ate awfully well!

(Ed. Note: The Alaska trip is one that Ben and I enjoyed a couple years ago, and would do it again in a heart beat...if you haven't...TRY IT...it's fairly inexpensive (OURS was) and comfortable on a small boat.)

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
