IT SEEMS TO ME . . . (The Editor's Commentary)
In the fall issue, in this space, your editor suggested that you all call the White House and give your opinion about entering a WAR at this time . . .(or, THAT time) I do not know how many of you followed my suggestion. Howsomever, I (the editor) did get some feedback about the suggestion in general. Not a LOT, but one. The basic gist of the comment was that this thing that I edit twice a year is a newsLetter NOT a newsPaper. And while I assume a certain amount of editorial freedom, if we (I) are going to get into politics there should be an opportunity for a "Letters To The Editor" reply column! WHICH, OF COURSE, WOULD PLEASE ME NO END! I cry for comment . . . For news of any kind! One of the Staff has said that it seems you all "forgive me my wild-eyed Liberalism". Perhaps you do. On the other hand, I think the dissenter was correct. My opinion is of no more import than any of our readers'. We are doing this NEWSLETTER to keep in touch, not to preach or campaign, but I (we) am/are interested in ANYTHING you have to say about ANYTHING, always.
PEACE!      PHL

REPORT ON THE ALL - GLENBARD REUNION - Laughlin, NV 2/11 & 12/ 2003

Lots of people were missing! But then, there were a few (13 grads and 5 "spice") who made the party a joy for all of us '44s. Laughlin is really no-one's favorite place in the world, but when surrounded by old friends, anywhere is great.
Jennie Swallen Groenig and Dave; Pat Flint Hallquist and Gil; Anne Wallerius Hoy and Dave Hoy; Don Jameson and June; Jim Love and Fran Proctor Love; Nancy MacGonagle More; Al Osterling and Cece; Chuck Staufenberg; Daryl James; John Glathe; and Ben and I . . . a happy crowd, and most compatible . . .but I cannot stress enough that we missed you, the ones who didn't come. CHARLIE ROSENTHAL, '36 did the organizing of the whole thing, and Cal and Sue Phillips ('50 and '52) did the mailings, reservations and kept track of the money and late-comers; Geri Beck Dicks ('53) made up a Glenbard History folder; Joe Spears ('40) organized the golf game and the hotel staff was efficient and courteous . . . all worth the HUGE (ha!) cost of $18.00/night and $58.00 for dinners! THAT's why we do it in Laughlin, I guess.

Ben and I arrived on the 10th (Monday), I thinking I could be of some help someplace, but the Hospitality Room didn't open until Tuesday morning . . . so we pulled a few slots, walked along the River, and drove over to Bullhead City to buy some Valentines which I had not yet sent to my Grands! Unforgivable! That evening we went down to the Italian Restaurant in the Hotel for some Pizza and beer, and ran right into CHARLIE , our reunion leader, having a salad and a soda. I knew it was him because he had on his green jacket and his plaid cap. What a guy! And I found out he is a wonderful water color artist !! Now, you figure, he is about 8 years older than any of us (!) and he still enters many art shows and paints daily . . . a GEM of a man.
Tuesday morning we (the Phillips, Charlie and I) sat at the table outside the Hospitality Room and "Greeted and Checked In" . . . it was fun, and we got to see everyone who came . . . a good job to have!

Tuesday Night dinner was a Tex/Mex sort of buffet, and quite filling and good . . . the cocktail line was long, as usual, but we all managed to quench our thirsts! Mostly we sat around the tables and talked and talked, and took lots of photos (some reproduced here, mostly John Glathe's, and Chuck's) and we laughed a LOT! Next day was GOLF, but unlike last trip, Nancy and I didn't play: #1, it was rainy, and #2, we hated that Course last time, and most important, #3, we didn't have SOX there to kick our ball out of the hazards!! Mostly, people just met in the HR and looked at scrap books and videos, or talked about other days and times .
The Hotel had given us some coupons and 'freebees'so Wednesday a.m., we went to breakfast on the hotel, did more photos, etc, etc . . . by now it was raining hard, so we couldn't really walk around outside. Wednesday evening we met in the H. Room for a group picture, and then to cocktails & dinner . . . t'was FINE . . . with roast beef, and a nice selection of side dishes and desserts. Thursday morning was a group breakfast for most of us before we took off in the pouring rain for home . . . the breakfast was an extra few $$, but worth it for the "fond farewell" time. AND it's ALWAYS "fond"!
As usual, we are never sure who will be with us next time! There were grads attending from 1927 to 1965 . . . so, hopefully, we will have some Pals from 1944 around for a long time to come! SURPRISE US ALL IN 2005, AND JOIN US! You won't be sorry!

EVER LOYAL BE!
