"A DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY" - #2
. . . and we all remember the first one, as we watch the much different, but horrifying images of the second on our TV screens. By now, when this issue comes to your mail (or e-mail) boxes, we will have a better idea what is going to happen, and how our leaders are going to respond.
We are old. The young are the ones who will be affected for many years to come. I worry for the babies, for the grandchildren of the Class of 1944, and the others...those not even here yet.
In the meantime, let's plan our REUNION, let's keep some joy in the fore-front of our daily living, let's be happy that we are here to rock those grandbabies and set some kind of example for their future! Let's DANCE!

What do you think about our new cover?? The photo was extracted from Al Osterling's Glen Bard folder cover. In "ever loyal" fashion, Al sent all four years of papers to me to use! LOOK at the following image from the February 18, 1942 issue:

Buy plane tickets, buy stock shares, buy Christmas presents now. Go to the theatre, go out to dinner, give blood, send money to your local disaster relief! Until we have some "stamps" or "bonds" to buy, this is the best we can do right now. And HUG your family!

IN MEMORIAM :   RUSSELL ALBERT KOESTER
May 22, 1926 - September 22, 2001
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.

"Ah, but I was so much
    older then; I am
    younger than that
    now"             Bob Dylan
AND...then there are the Birthdays for the rest of us. The Editor was more gung-ho about this than the readers, but we dId get some response:
Les Duryea May 21               Ed Kett August 25
Danny Frank July 27               Jim Love August 30
Eunice Fiala June 19               Dick Malm November ?
Lucille Hill August 12               Al Osterling June ?
Marge Holtorf July 9               Carl Rosenhagen    August ?
Sox Howell April 10               Don Sage June 24
Anne Wallerius    July 3 '27               Ginny Scholl Feb. 17
Dave Hoy Sept. 20               Jennie Swallen April 3, '27
Jane Kemper April 30               Phil Woodworth July 15
Now, that took some investigation, but it was fun!
Hope your day was Happy!

If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."

Mark Twain

If you have been reading your Newsletters these past couple of years (this is our 3rd!), you realize that we have been blessed by some extra "stringers" who send us interesting text of adventurous travels, and in the case of Don Ward, of old cars!!! (Pierce Arrow!) Don visited the Powel Crosley Museum on a recent trip to Florida, and recalled Chuck Staufenberg's trip in a Crosley car across the country with Fleming Brown! Encouraged by Don AND your editor, Chuck wrote about the trip. An edited version of the story was published in the print version of the Newsletter for lack of space, but we have room for it here on the Web. Click here for the full version -- and be sure to check out the Epilogue.
