A message from the Editor:

This is a "trial" to see how many of you are going to keep in touch and make this a New-sy letter..the "heart" of any publication about people..is the NEWS..so send it to me in any manner that you choose...OKAY?? (Poetic or not).

Phil Woodworth took over from Sox Howell who collected the dollars from everyone who got the letter from Al Osterling asking if we wanted a Newsletter..and then agreed that it would be a good idea. Originally Gunther Wittmus and Louise Mathison Rooney were going to put it all together.. they passed the torch to Phil and me and Chuck Staufenberg (as Webmaster). There are all sorts of little items (kind of newsy) that came with the dollars last fall, but by now, that is OLD (pardon the expression) stuff. Surely, you are FULL of exciting happenings! TELL us.

Pat Hatfield Lillegraven

WHERE IS OUR 55TH REUNION???
Does anyone remember the tears and sighs that exuded from our old eyes on that fateful Sunday morning in September of 1994 when we ALL agreed that a 60th was too far away, and we NEEDED something for 55?? You DO, because many mentioned it with your notes...well, a Committee has not stepped up to the plate, so for the time being, we are pushing the ALL GLENBARD reunion happening in February 2000 in Laughlin, Nevada..there is an application on the backside of the GRAYBARD issue included with the print version of this first letter.. FILL IT OUT, AND PLAN TO ATTEND. You couldn't find a better deal anywhere...the price is very right, and you will get to visit with grads from many classes... SEE YOU THERE!!!

ITEM:
A few gentlemen (?) from the Class of 1944, at the suggestion of a fellow named DURYEA, gathered at Trout Lake, Wisconsin at a little castle-home belonging to the instigator. This Group was the same one that visited Three Lakes directly after graduation in 1944. From the 55 lines written by each attendant this trip, it sounds like a Jock Rock, and , although "ladyless", these guys had a second childhood.

Les Duryea II, (the host) , John Glathe, Bob Hilb, Tom Jensen, Russ Koester, Jim Love, Bob McCray, Itch Malm, Al Osterling, Don Sage, Joe Wagner, and my cohort in Newsletters, Phil Woodworth. Sox Howell and Dick Calkins couldn't make it.. And Jean Rohm and Bob Saint Clair, two of the "angels"....

For more on the event check the photo page here. (It takes a few seconds.)

COMMENT: When do the girls get to visit, Les???

Money.
What do we have and where did it go?? There was $615.00 in contributions..and we have spent $99.20 so far. We don't know the final cost of this #1 interesting issue (!) as yet, so until we pay that bill, we have $515.80 left.
The $99.20 was the first mailing to incite interest..OK?

Senior Spotlight:   Robert Durnal   (by Phil Woodworth)
The Committee didn't have Bob's address when we had the 50th in 1994, but with the help of AOL's white pages and a few phone calls, we found him in Florida. The problem with trying to tell you about Bob is that there is too much to tell, and a good part of it I (Phil) don't understand. How many of you are comfortable in the fields of encryption or steganography?? For those of you who are, you need to visit Bob's homepage at http://members.tripod.com/~afn21533, or at http://www.afn.org/~afn21533. (Got that??) There's lots of other good information and pictures on it that I DO understand.

Bob was educated at Northwestern as an electrical engineer, and worked for Westinghouse until 1977 (Ed. note: did you know Tom Jensen there, Bob?) He started working with computers in 1972. He went to Law School at night and got his degree, and then moved to West Virginia practicing law full time. Bob moved to Florida, near Gainesville, in 1992, on five acres (WOW) and has GREAT grandchildren (WOW) lots of dogs, birds, four (that's 4) vintage Cadillac convertibles..all in running order (one for each Great?) and an enclosed pool where he spends his afternoons. Besides his HomePage, you can e-mail him at afn21533@afn.org or call him at 352-495-3936, or write him at 7619 SW 135th Terrace, Archer, FLA 32618. (Ed. note: Y'ALL find out about that encryption..personally, I want to be cremated!) (but not soon).
