THE GLENBARD HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1944
50TH REUNION PHOTO

A group photograph was taken at Glen Oak Country Club, on Saturday night, September 24, 1994. It shows 76 of the 90 grads who attended one or more of the events that were held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of that weekend.

A digital image of the photograph was scanned at 1500 pixels wide, 481 pixels high, and 24bit color depth. The file size as a JPEG image is 178KB. This is about the smallest file size that doesn't sacrifice much of the (limited) quality of the original photo print. If your desktop area is set for 640 by 480 pixels the image is going to be over twice as wide, and you will have to scroll to see it all.

A grayscale image key to the individuals has been placed below the main photo on the same page. The key photo is also 1500 by 481 pixels, and as a reduced-quality JPEG its file size is 78KB. So, if you have your browser set to auto-load images, you will have to download a total of more than 260KB. The small "thumbnails" below will give you some idea of what the images will look like.

Key to individuals

As much as possible, the names in the key were placed to avoid covering faces, and those that could not be placed on the person's image are along the top of the key in left-to-right sequence. Spellings for the names are as listed in the 1944 PINNACLE. Identifications were checked by several class members, and I hope there are no errors or omissions.

The original photograph was taken by Maranatha Photography, of Carol Stream, Illinois. Frankly, the photographic print was not too good, and my copy has faded quite a bit, despite its being kept in an archival plastic envelope.

As you are viewing the pictures, you might want to indulge in a bit of nostalgia, by singing or humming the Glenbard Loyalty Song*. If you have forgotten the tune, click here for a midi file of it, as arranged and performed by Bette Stitt,'44. It will help if your sound system has reasonable fidelity.

Here are the lyrics:
We will ever loyal be,
We will ever follow thee;
Let thy banners bravely fly,
Glenbard High, Rah! Rah! Rah!
Faithful to our standards true,
Standing loyally by you,
Green, White, Let's Fight!
Lead us forever...smiling to victory.

*Note that this is the version we knew in 1944.
It does not refer to "Glenbard West".
