The Glenbard Class of 1944 Newsletter Updated June 3, 2001 A Voice From The Past: A Radio Interview With Fleming Brown In 1964 Fleming was interviewed by Studs Terkel on Chicago radio station WFMT. The hour-long interview was re-broadcast in 1984 as a tribute to Fleming after his death that year. A tape of that broadcast was obtained by John Filson, and Alan Osterling provided us a copy of the tape, from which an MP3 "streaming audio" file was prepared. In the interview Fleming plays a number of folk songs on the five-string banjo and guitar. He discusses some of the history of the songs, and tells of his work in "interpreting" them. The MP3 files are in two parts, each about 27 minutes long. You will need a "plug-in" such as RealPlayer, a free version of which can be downloaded from real.com, if you don't already have it.
